Now, let’s get glowing.

1. Try a dry brush.

Before your morning shower, experiment with dry brushing. This ancient practice is growing in popularity and helps to exfoliate dead skin cells, increase circulation, open clogged pores and release your body’s natural toxins. It’s also known to minimize the appearance of cellulite, give you increased energy and aid in digestion – and it feels wonderful!

To dry brush properly, invest in a long-handled brush with natural bristles so that you can safely and comfortably reach all parts of your body. We love Earth Therapeutics’ Tampico Vegetable Fiber Skin Brush. Because dry brushing is known to improve blood flow and assist with lymphatic drainage, experts recommend starting at the bottoms of your feet and brushing upward in long, smooth strokes toward your heart. Brush your legs, stomach, and chest – and finish by brushing up your arms toward your armpits. You can even brush your face using a soft brush like this one from Resilient Beauty. With face brushing, be sure to use gentle strokes and brush no more than 1-2 times per week. After you’re done brushing, take a lukewarm shower (hot water saps moisture!) to rinse off dead skin cells and follow with a moisturizer to lock in hydration.

2. Savor a soft scrub.

Another great way to exfoliate dead skin cells and enhance your skin’s moisture is to use a gentle sugar or salt scrub in the shower. One of our favorites is Tree Hut’s Shea Sugar Scrub, which has Shea Nut Oil and vitamin C to enhance your skin’s natural moisture and keep it looking young and healthy. You can also make your own scrub at home using sugar and oils like coconut, olive or essential oils.

3. Moisturize religiously.

It may seem obvious, but moisturizing morning, noon and night is imperative to keeping your skin fresh and glowing. Find a moisturizer that replenishes your skin’s moisture, but doesn’t feel overly thick or greasy.

On a budget? We love Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer. In the mood to indulge? We swear by Epionce Intensive Nourishing Cream and Renewal Enriched Body Lotion.

4. Don’t forget sunscreen.

Just because the sun is shrouded in thick clouds doesn’t mean your skin is protected from its powerful UV rays. In fact, UV rays can sometimes be even more powerful on cloudy days. We recommend applying a sunscreen with SPF 30 or above every morning before leaving the house and reapplying every 3-5 hours. We use EltaMD Tinted Sunscreen with SPF 40 since it looks great beneath our foundation and can serve as a light makeup on lazy days or during workouts.

5. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate — and keep booze and caffeine at bay.

We love an occasional stiff martini and Starbucks latte as much as you do, but excessive alcohol and caffeine intake can dry out your skin. The Mayo Clinic recommends women drink up to 9 glasses of water per day or 2.2 fluid ounces. If plain old H20 bores you, spice things up a bit by adding in water flavoring like Mio Liquid Water Enhancer.

The added benefit of moderation? Drinking less can minimize other skin problems like psoriasis and rosacea and also enhance the body’s immune system.

6. Use a gentle cleanser, and don’t forget to wash nightly.

Just because it’s dry out doesn’t mean you’re safe from breakouts. Always wash your face before bed, as snoozing with the day’s dirt and makeup is guaranteed to cause pimples. Use a gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin’s natural moisture. We recommend our own line of physician-created skincare products from MD Ethics. Our gentle cleanser leaves skin feeling soft and smooth, while the anti-aging serum hydrates, tones and reverses effects of aging like wrinkles and sun spots.

7. Indulge in a HydraFacial.

Treat yourself to a HyrdaFacial at our Fort Worth med spa. Not only does this patented extraction and serum-delivery system cleanse, exfoliate, remove impurities and dramatically improve hydration, but it also eliminates the appearance of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation and firms skin for a youthful, glowing look.

This 30-minute treatment is a painless, non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that delivers antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid to your skin to increase collagen and elastin production and give volume and fullness.

8. Snooze with gloves and socks.

Our hands and feet are especially susceptible to the effects of winter weather. To replenish moisture overnight, apply a thick hand and foot lotion under beauty gloves and socks. By morning, you’ll be soft and smooth.

9. Invest in a humidifier.

Winter weather saps the air of its moisture. Keep a humidifier by your bedside to increase your bedroom’s humidity. Not only will this keep your skin moist and soft, but it will also help to prevent colds and sinus infections and improve your sleep. Be sure to refresh the water every day to prevent bacteria.

10. Do the dew.

Even the best makeup artists have trouble hiding flaky skin, as matte foundations and powders can amplify the appearance of dry patches and wrinkles. A hot new makeup trend from Korea could help combat dryness, giving you a dewy glow throughout the day. Instead of a powder compact, try a cushion compact, a beauty-balm saturated sponge that provides a light finish and is easy to use on the go. Refinery 29 shares their favorites, which often include SPF and other moisturizing ingredients like essential oils and vitamins. At Anderson Plastic Surgery and Med Spas, we also swear by Vapour Organic Beauty products and Oxygenetix healing foundation for a dewy glow.

Dry no more: Try these 10 tips and you’ll be soft, supple and glowing from head to toe.
